Experience with animals, to be honest I am over 60 years old and have grown up with animals, so lets say a while, I have shared my home and life with many animals.
All visiting rabbits must be vaccinated against VHD 1 & 2 and Myxomatosis. Vaccinations must be in date and records will be checked on arrival. Vaccinations must be given at least 3 weeks prior to admission. I do not board unvaccinated rabbits.
If you have no certificate an email from your vet will be acceptable.
Guinea Pigs do not need to be vaccinated.
I am more than happy for you to provide your own pellets, and this is recommended if you know your pet has a preferred choice or requires a regulated or specialist diet.
I do not mind for you to bring things that may allow your pet to have a more comfortable and relaxed stay with me, i.e.:
- Toys
- Blankets/Small Pet Beds
- Hides
- Litter Trays (clean and well sanitised)
- Favourite Snacks
If appropriate and required I would without hesitation take your pet to the vet for treatment. I would try to keep your own vet, if possible, at the time with the details provided at your first registration with me.
I would immediately contact you at the first opportunity, depending on the circumstances this may be before or after seeking veterinary help.
Litter trays are changed and disinfected routinely, soiled bedding is changed daily, a full clean is done every third day.
I use veterinary grade disinfectants and steam clean runs.
Yes, in an enclosed run on warm, dry days. The run is moved round the garden on a regular basis.
It is best to reach me via WhatsApp messages during the working day only and not at night. Once pets are settled in, I get the best chance to send a few photos. I am caring for lots of animals, have other duties and many clients on my books so I am not a 24-hour hotline to pets. I am happy to send email updates when I can.
Persistent/excessive requests cannot be fulfilled. During peak times I am very busy looking after pets and seeing clients, so cannot commit to multiple photos, but I am good to reply to messages and update as much as I can. Please respect normal working hours and my rest time, like any business.
Rest assured, if I have any concerns or issues, I will let you know, so “no news is good news!.”
Unfortunately, no. I have CCTV for all guests, sharing Wi-Fi will give access to my entire home, this I feel is a breach of data/privacy regulations. But I will send regular photo updates to you.
Yes. I strongly encourage a pre pet sitting meeting prior to any boarding taking place. This can be arranged at a time convenient to you.
Sorry but no, all rabbits and bonded pairs must be neutered.
All guests stay withing their own private accommodation and do not mix with other guests during exercise or play time.
Yes, I do, I hold Public Liability Insurance, and this is displayed in reception.
You can book online via the website. Simply navigate to ? and select “Book Online”. Alternatively, you can book an appointment or make inquiries by calling me on 07624 431156. Please note that bookings cannot be made via email, but you are welcome to make inquiries.
Please ensure you walk your dog before their appointment. This helps release energy and provides your dog with an opportunity to relieve themselves (going to the toilet) before the grooming process begins. A good walk contributes to a more comfortable and enjoyable grooming experience for your dog.
You may feed your dog a small amount at least two hours before their appointment, as this can keep them comfortable during the grooming process. Please avoid over feeding and ensure your dog has the opportunity to toilet well before your arrival.
Yes, for my safety and for that of your pet. I need to know if your dog is prone to any types of aggressive or difficult behaviour, so I can take the necessary precautions.
When dealing with dogs that exhibit difficult or aggressive behaviour, collaboration with their owner is essential to support the dog in accepting the grooming procedure. Some particularly aggressive dogs may need to come in with the owner.
Dogs with aggressive or challenging behaviour will incur an additional charge. I have equipment with up-to-date handling aids and techniques to complete the job safely.
When you arrive for your first appointment, I will greet you with your dog and I will ask you to complete a short registration form. This includes your contact details, your dog’s history, health and behaviour, Vet details, together with our terms and conditions.
You can download a copy of the registration form here, should you wish to complete it prior to your first appointment.
I will then examine your dog and discuss its grooming requirements with you.
Once grooming needs have been agreed I will inform you of the price and give you a pickup time.
At Furry & Fabulous I do not crate or cage dogs, dogs are situated in comfortable areas of the salon where they are included in the ambience of the room.
Please contact me if you require special arrangements for your dog.
I would rather reschedule the appointment as I find that sometimes they can be a little out of sorts. A normally well-behaved dog can become a little monkey!
I do not groom pregnant dogs so as not to put them under undue stress that may harm their unborn puppies, I also recommend leaving a groom until the puppies have been weaned.
As soon as they have had their last injections and the vet says they can go outside, which is usually a week after that.
Please bring an item with a familiar scent to your puppy to help maintain scent continuity.
If you have a breed that requires regular grooming, then they have a lifetime of it ahead of them. As you can imagine your little pup has a lot to learn and experience! The best way to introduce them to grooming is to do it slowly and a little at a time. I offer puppy intro’s that will introduce your puppy to the environment, bath, brush, trimming and drying process.
I will groom elderly dogs, dogs with disabilities or debilitating illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer, etc. Please provide me with the best care support as advised by your VET.
Dogs are not sedated on these premises.
For an improved experience for your dog and of course for their safety it is imperative I have their complete attention.
Most dogs are distracted by their owner’s presence and will behave so much better without their owners being with them.
If your dog gets separation anxiety and you believe they would be calmer with you staying, then YES of course you could. Please let me know. I much prefer to groom a calm, happy dog!
No, at Furry & Fabulous I groom on a 1:1 basis.
Most breeds, including cross breeds, vary in size, temperament, coat texture and condition so I have a starting price. If your dog’s groom is going to cost more, I will always advise you of this once they have been assessed.
Usually this is because the coat is knotty or matted which means the longer comb attachments, I use won’t go through the coat and I have to use a shorter comb to get underneath the mats. I will not cause undue stress or discomfort to your dog by brushing out knots or matts.
Sometimes I realise as I wash and dry your dog that a shorter trim is needed but I will always call and let you know if I need to take your dogs coat shorter than planned.
I will always assess the coat for knots and use my extensive knowledge to see whether I can comfortably brush a knot out.
However, I will not subject a dog to prolonged brushing out. A general rule of thumb is that I will not de-matt for longer than 20 minutes. I will always call you if I have to clip an area shorter than expected due to knots.
The Animal Welfare Act stipulates that causing animals pain or discomfort is an offence, and I reserve the right to remove the coat if I believe it is in the best interest of the animal in question.
The time of a grooming appointment changes depending on the dog’s size and the services requested. A typical bath is 1 hour, and a typical groom is 2 hours. A time of estimated completion is provided at the beginning of the appointment.
A dog groomer is another resource to help keep your dog healthy. The service begins by checking them from head to paw with a pet care check, as part of the grooming experience. This helps spot warning signs of any potential health concerns. While grooming can never replace routine check ins with a veterinarian, it can still be lifesaving, making groomers an important part of your dog’s routine. Here are some other benefits of dog grooming:
- Care check to spot physical behavioural changes
- Discovery of early warning signs of illness
- Detection of parasites
De-Matting dogs can be a very painful process, it consists of pulling on the matted hair a bit like trying to comb a knot out of your own hair. Imagine that all over your body! That’s why I don’t do it. If your dog has a few knots, sure, I will get them out, but for a dog that is matted, this would be a hellish few hours and not something that I as a dog lover am prepared to do.
The alternative is to shave your dog, a much better idea. I use blades that seamlessly get under the matts leaving your dog a lot happier to come back into the salon and have another groom at a later date. Yes, you may have a short coated dog for a while but guess what …. IT GROWS BACK!
So please remember when your groomer says that your dog has to be shaved, its not to get at you, no one is judging, it is simply what is best for your beloved pooch. We all have one main thing in common and it has four legs and a waggy tail!
No, he is 14!
No, he’s a poodle.
Did you bite your hairdresser? Do your privates get trimmed? Do you get cut/shaved all over?
I will not groom any band dog breeds such as XL Bully, etc, basically any dog under the Dangerous Dogs Act.
All dogs’ nails have a blood supply running through them called the “quick”. The longer the nail, the longer the quick, meaning I can only take the very end off before hitting the quick. As the quick is full of nerves it can be painful to nick this and, in some cases, cause a fear of having nails done in the future.
Very occasionally I do nick a quick. Some dogs don’t notice this has happened; others do. Seeing blood on our animals can be scary. However, please be assured that I will have treated the area with a blood stop powder and applied a slight pressure to the nail. Most quicks stop after a few seconds. I will always tell you if this has happened.
No, I do not do this at Furry & Fabulous. A healthy dog should empty its anal glands naturally. If your dog has issues with its anal glands, I strongly advise you seek a vet’s advice.
As a dog lover I prefer to build up a trust between the dog and myself.
For the safety of both the dog and me, and only as a last resort for dogs that do show signs of aggression such as snarling or biting/licking at the clippers or scissors will be temporarily muzzled.
This would be for the shortest period possible.
It is important that you tell me about your dog’s condition. I will still accept dogs that have fleas as I am a 1:1 groomer and there will be no other dogs in the salon at that time.
Your dog can be washed with flea deterrent shampoo that will kill all fleas on the dog. I would only use a flea shampoo with your permission, making sure your dog is not exposed to too many chemicals if they have just been treated by your VET.
If I find fleas on your dog that you had not advised me of, there may be an additional fee for treatment.
I do not use drying boxes. All the dogs at Furry & Fabulous are hand dried and under supervision at all times.
I only use professional top quality dog shampoos. I have several in stock and will always choose the most suitable for your dog’s coat and skin type.
I continually review the market for best grooming products for dogs.
You are always welcome to bring your own shampoo and/or conditioner, especially when recommended by your VET.
At Furry & Fabulous I use the most natural products and up-to-date techniques to ensure there is no itching or irritable post-grooming. Should this be the case, please contact me as soon as possible and I will advise you to use colloidal silver or witch hazel to soothe the skin as they have anti-inflammatory properties.
All dogs are taken for toilet breaks before, during and after grooming.
In the unlikely event that your dog toilets indoors due to anxiety, stress or excitement, I will clean this up, no harm done.
If your dog is becoming that upset, I would stop any treatment as soon as possible.
Your dog will always receive plenty of cuddles and reassurance.
Water is always available for dogs in the salon.
I do not feed dogs any meals unless specifically asked to do so for health reasons.
I will always ask your permission to give your dog a small treat. Some dogs are on strict diets or suffer allergies and therefore may not be allowed treats.
No. At Furry & Fabulous I am a 1:1 groomer and do not have the equipment nor space suitable for all day boarding. I can only keep your dog for a short while after their appointment time.
I offer a free correction service for the first 24 hours after collection.
Sometimes, due to previous styling or coat condition, it may take a few grooms to get your dog’s style just how you like it. I encourage you to tell me if you’d like a little more off, a rounder face, a shorter tail or whatever. On collection, please tell me if you prefer something different and I will be quite happy to make any reasonable adjustments to the style. I welcome the chance to work with you on establishing the style you want, and I really do want you to be happy with the groom.
Please call me to cancel and re-schedule as soon as possible on 07624 431156.
I understand the unforeseen happens to us all at some time.
Please remember, all of my bookings are by appointment only. It can be difficult to fill the unused appointment at short notice.
I am a small business and cannot afford to lose money through no-shows. Although your money does not cover the money I have lost, it does go some way to covering costs.
I have attended a canine first aid course so will be able to deal with certain situations and know how to help the dog until more specialist care can be given.
If appropriate and required I would without hesitation take your dog to the vet for treatment. I would try to keep your own vet, if possible, at the time with the details provided at your first registration with me.
I would immediately contact you at the first opportunity, depending on the circumstances this may be before or after seeking veterinary help.
I firmly believe that a love of being groomed starts at home. Your dog trusts you implicitly, and so, with regular brushing sessions you will cement that bond. I recommend short sessions of brushing and please start with the areas they don’t enjoy as much.
Sadly, if they won’t let you brush areas they dislike they will not like me doing it either. Reward based grooming “works a treat”. You’ll be surprised by how the promise of a little high value treat can work wonders in return for a bit of brushing!
You will need a brush and a comb for your dog’s coat type and will usually need to use them on a weekly basis to remove knots and debris from the coat. A secure table makes a good place for grooming as your dog will be in a more comfortable position for you to reach around the legs.
Yes, I do, I hold Public Liability Insurance, and this is displayed in the grooming salon.
All payments are due when you collect your dog. This can be paid by card, cheque or cash. You can also pay in advance by bank transfer.

Yes. I strongly encourage a pre doggy homestay meeting prior to any boarding taking place. This can be arranged at a time convenient to you.
Most dogs don’t need more than three 1 hour walks each day, but I am happy to do more or less as required. Your dog will be exercised on a lead as dogs can behave differently in new surroundings and may find any new scents just to inviting! If, however you would prefer your dog exercised off the lead please let me know at the time of booking.
Basic medication can be provided. I would need detailed instructions on any specific medical conditions and on administration. I am happy to discuss any requirements your dog(s) may have and generally most needs can be met.
I am licensed with DEFA to have a maximum of two dogs at any given time and these will need to be from the same family.
Yes. I ask that clients provide sufficient food for the duration of your dog(s) stay. If for any reason the food provided is not sufficient for the duration of the stay I will purchase more and ask that you refund the cost at the end of your dog(s) stay.
Yes. I ask that you provide anything you think will help your dog settle in so bed, toys, blanket, etc. In addition, I’d appreciate if you could provide your dog(s) lead, harness if necessary and food bowls. As a result, this helps your dog feel familiar in their new surroundings as quickly as possible.
Also, any medication they require.
Your dog(s) safety and well being are my top priority. I will closely supervise your dog(s) throughout their stay ensuring they have a fun and secure environment to relax and play in. I am happy to adhere to your training routine for your puppy.
For the health and safety of all my guests, I require dogs to be up to date with their vet recommended vaccinations. Proof of vaccinations is required upon registration.
Unfortunately, No. Under DEFA legislation and the Animal Welfare Regulations 2018 I cannot accept dogs that are not vaccinated.
Yes, it is the law that your dog is microchipped.
In the event of any emergency, I have protocols in place to ensure the safety and well-being of all my guests. If I am unable to contact you and your nominated veterinary practice, I have a relationship with Jane Callow for immediate medical attention if required.
Ring Furry & Fabulous as soon as possible to explain and to make changes to collection arrangements. I will do my best to accommodate this, but other boarding arrangements may have to be made until your return at a cost to yourselves.
If you return from your holiday early and decide to collect your dog(s) before the due date, there is no refund of your booking payment.
No, not necessarily. However, your dog MUST be friendly towards people and manageable when it sees other dogs out walking. Your dog must not be seen to be presenting threatening behaviour towards other dogs or people out walking. I ask that you are honest and open about ALL of your dog’s behaviour traits and discuss any concerns you have with me. Furry & Fabulous always appreciates and expects your total honesty and will do everything I can to help.
Furry & Fabulous reserves the right not to accept dogs that are expected to be or are in season during the stay. If you are concerned about the timing of your dog’s season you must make me aware.
I am happy and prepared to look after older dogs with specific needs. It must be noted that your dog must be clean in the house, have reasonable mobility, mental health and sight. Dogs over 10 years of age are requested to complete our senior dog information before the stay.
Remember, with any dog stay, you will always have a meet and greet before any stay to make sure everything is right for your older dog.
No, Doggy Homestay is for family friendly dogs who live in the home (not in a kennel). I do not accept protection dogs or those trained as guard dogs.
I do not accept any dogs with aggressive tendencies towards humans (whatever the size of dog), un-housetrained dogs or dogs with incontinence problems, dogs that are likely to chew furniture/carpets, etc or dogs that are over boisterous or not under control, particularly the larger breeds.
Excessive barking is considered to be anti-social and not behaviour I am prepared to accept as I have neighbours to consider and this is a family home.
